The Horseshoe Falls Quest App has just gone live for both Apple and Android.
Triggered by GPS location, the Horseshoe Falls Quest is designed with families in mind. It offers a fun way to explore and learn more about this beautiful area, full of wildlife and history. The App guides you on a short walk (1½ miles / 2.5 km) from Llantysilio Green Picnic Area with regular stops for questions which draw your attention to the many points of interest – a gallery also provides extra information and old photos. Once the quest is complete, you will be awarded a ‘badge’, available to show your friends via social media, depending on which sort of questions you answered best.
We were delighted to hear that the CBeebies Storytime app won the award for Best Digital Children’s Content at the Broadcast Digital Awards on Wednesday. We’re proud to have been able to contribute to the project, in the form of animating a number of the stories within the app. Congratulations to everybody involved at the BBC — it’s a fun project to work on! You can read more about the award on the Broadcast site and you can download the Storytime app via the BBC site.
Splinter is proud to have contributed to a major new Gallery for longstanding client: National Museums Liverpool (NML).
Working with NML development staff, Splinter designed and illustrated the ‘People of the Lusitania’ interactive, that is situated online and in a new gallery at Merseyside Maritime Museum. The gallery, which opened this weekend, marks the centenary of the sinking of the Lusitania and the 1,191 people whose lives were tragically lost. Visitors can search and explore the interactive for information about the people who were on board the Lusitania’s final voyage.
You can read more about Lusitania here.
Following on from the recent fun we had doing our Animal Allstars, we decided to tackle another studio project, this time to coincide with everyone’s favourite scare-fest — Halloween. So I introduce to you, our A — Z of horror films, which we like to call Scary Letters. Illustrated in-house by one of our designers Curtis, and printed by the forever-awesome guys at Ripe Digital, it was surprisingly difficult to come up with a film for every letter, so we’d love to hear your suggestions for what you would have done for some of the letters.
Splinter are chuffed that we were successful in winning a Business Travel Support Grant from the Liverpool & Sefton Chambers of Commerce via the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (special thanks to Michelle and Jessica). The grant looks to promote sustainable transport by encouraging more people to cycle to work.
It has certainly worked as now Rachael, Barry, Ste, Kevin and Chris are all getting to work on two wheels – let’s hope they all keep it up as the weather gets worse.
The bikes have come from our neighbours Giant. They were really helpful, and of course they have the best bikes ;)
HG Wells believed that “Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I have hope for the human race.” I’m not sure that he would be of the same opinion if he had seen us lot!
After the huge success of the CBeebies Playtime app, the BBC’s in-house team have developed a follow on Storytime app, featuring narrated stories of some of the much-loved brands on the channel.
We were lucky enough to be asked to help out a bit by doing the animation work on the stories for The Octonauts, Grandpa In My Pocket, Something Special and Show Me Show Me.
A short while back we did a little studio side project for the World Cup, where we created animals for each team taking part in the competition. There was a really great response to them, so we decided to do a short run of A2 posters to commemorate the project. If you’d like to get your hands on one, they’re for sale over on Rincks Print Shop for £20. So grab yourself one before they sell out.
Today we welcomed visitors as part of Open Studio 2014, tying in to Designival and the IFB Creative & Digital week. For anyone who came along, we did a special limited run of A2 posters featuring our World Cup Animal Allstars, and had shot glasses of peanuts. What more could anyone want?
It was Kev’s 21st x 2 birthday yesterday so instead of cakes everyone was given a lovely bag of retro sweeties to enjoy! Thanks Kev!
